Readers play a very important role during Mass. In addition to reading the announcements, Readers proclaim the first and second readings from the Bible. The Gospel reading is read by the priest or deacon. The Reader also reads the Prayer of the Faithful (General Intercessions) and, if the Psalm is not going to be sung, it will be a Reader who will proclaim the Psalm between the readings.
