Ss. Peter and Paul The Apostles Conference

Serving the Poor and Needy in Our Community

Our founding

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded by Frederic Ozanam over 150 years ago in Paris, France.  Frederic Ozanam was a student at the Sorbonne University where, while discussing the plight of the poor with a group of students, it was decided that, rather than just discussing it, they would take positive actions.  Since that time, the Society has grown into an International Organization serving the poor throughout the world.  The Beatification of Frederic Ozanam took place in Paris at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in August

The Ss. Peter and Paul Conference began at the invitation of Fr. Moretti when our parish was first founded. The first meeting was held in December 1988.  The conference consists of approximately ten active members and ten associate members.  The Conference Office is located in the Activity Center on the parish grounds at 2850  75th Street W., Bradenton, FL 34209. For assistance or information, call 941-794-1328.

The Conference mission and primary purpose is to relieve the suffering of the poor.  People in need come for assistance, either at our doorsteps or through referrals from other charities and organizations.  Individual needs vary, but are usually of an emergency nature. With help from our parish youth ministry and parishioners, Thanksgiving food baskets are provided to migrant workers and donated toys are collected and distributed to needy children at Christmas.  Food baskets, clothing, furniture and appliances are provided year round in cooperation with the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Bradenton, 1111 8th Ave. West, Bradenton FL, 34205.

The main source of our operating funds is from the poor boxes located in our church and chapel vestibules.  Other sources are private donations, legacies and estate sales.
